Vaughan (1905-2005) was an American dogsled driver and explorer whose first claim to fame was participating in Admiral Byrd's first Antarctic Expedition, 1928-1930. He was a dogsled driver on Byrd's expedition and was chief dog driver of the geological survey party which discovered Amundsen’s cairn. Later on he made the 2004 first ascent of Antarctica’s Mount Vaughan (10,302’), just three days prior to his 89th birthday, and was the last surviving member of Byrd’s team.
