The first ascent of Dhaulagiri in 1960 by a Swiss expedition and the last Nepalese 8000er to be climbed. Diemberger is one of only two people, the other being Hermann Buhl, to make the first ascent of two 8000m peaks. Hackett was the first person to reach five of the Seven Summits, amongst other climbs, long before attempting these peaks became a popular quest.
