Americans on Everest: The Official Account of the Ascent led by Norman G. Dyhrenfurth

Author(s): Ullman, James Ramsey

Copyright: 1964, Lippincott, Phil & NY
Specifications: 1st, 8vo, pp.xxi, 429, 7 color & 120 bw photos, map, appendices, map eps, blue cloth
Condition: inscribed 3 times (see below), cloth lightly rubbed, name on title page, former label mark on ffep verso, tight, near fine

inscribed ‘Sabine The only gal who can type all night and guide all day, Bar, Maha Sete Bhalu’ & ‘To Sabine – with thanks for all the help on Mt. Kennedy. James W. Whittaker’ (both on half-title) & ‘Warm Regards to Sabine With the hope that you also have your own “Mt. Everest!” Barry C. Bishop 5/22/64’ (on dedication pg) (See large image to right)

A true first edition of the official story of the 1963 American Everest expedition which made the first traverse. Copies of this important canon in the Himalayan literature signed by both summitters Whittaker and Bishop are quite scarce. The first inscription by Bar may also be by Bishop. It appears this was given to Sabine shortly after publication. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find out who she was.
