Produced for the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of Annapurna, here’s a wonderful large-format book detailing the stories behind the discovery, exploration and first ascents of each 8000m peak, plus accounts of how they have been climbed since then. Includes separate chapters for each peak, in order of first ascent, and an appendix with ascent data through spring 1999. Lavishly illustrated with contemporary and archival photos. US edition of ‘On Top of the World’.
Fritz Wintersteller, together with Hermann Buhl, Kurt Diemberger, and Marcus Schmuck, made the first ascent of Broad Peak in 1957.
