This is a classic portrait image of Sir Ernest H. Shackleton, leader of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
Much has been written on the ‘Endurance’ and this epic story of survival. Frank Hurley, the expedition photographer, took a great number of wonderful images, many of which survived the sinking and terrible ordeal endured by the crew.
