Whittaker’s story is certainly inspiring. He was an up and coming climber prior to losing his right foot in a car accident in 1979. He returned to climbing and first went to Everest’s south side in 1989. In 1995 he ventured to the north side, with Greg Child and cameraman Leo Dickinson, and then in 1998 finally reached the summit via the south side.
