A magnificent silver print of the south-east face of K2 taken by Vittorio Sella during the Duke of Abruzzi expedition in the Karakorum in 1909. This is one of a limited number of copies produced by the Istituto di Fotografia Alpina “V. Sella” in 1954 to commemorate the Italian first ascent of K2. The wide bottom margin of the print has the original signatures of 12 members of the 1954 expedition including Compagnoni and Lacedelli, the first ascentionists. The reverse is stamped with the limitation number, #176, as well as the 'Istituto di Fotografia Alpina “V. Sella”' stamp. To my knowledge, Desio did not sign any of these photos due to his dispute with the expedition following the climb. Quite scarce.
