Expeditions

Expeditions is about high risk and high reward. From an early age Lindblade was fascinated with climbing and after a teenage start at walking and rock climbing, he teamed up with New Zealand climber Athol Wimp to begin one of the most outstanding climbing partnerships of this generation.

Their expeditions have taken them to some of the most daunting and extreme mountains in the world, from the wind ravaged spires of Patagonia’s Fitz Roy (North Pillar, 1994) and Cerro Torre (Maestri Routr, 1994) to the oxygen starved world of the Himalaya - Thalay Sagar (North Face, 1996, 1997) and Jannu (North Face, Japanese Wall of Shadows, 2000)). Their ascents have received world-wide acclaim in the Piolet d’Or in 1998.

As he gets further from home, further from safety and certainty, Lindblade captures the stark rawness and essence of mountaineering, and the commitment it takes to succeed at this level. With more experience comes greater risks, the stakes are continually raised as part of an ongoing quest for meaning and understanding in the most beautiful yet treacherous environments on earth.
