In April 1852, De Bray sailed on board ‘Resolute’ bound for the icy waters north of Canada as part of Sir Edward Belcher’s Arctic Squadron searching for Sir John Franklin, missing since 1845. As the only Frenchman in the expedition he notices and comments on details his fellow officers would have considered unremarkable. This is the first publication of his diaries and only the second account of this expedition.
