Renowned British mountaineer Stephen Venables took this classic image of Ed Webster crossing their Tyrolean Traverse over the Jaws of Doom Crevasse during their 1988 Kangshung Face expedition. This four-man international team’s climb was made without bottled oxygen, Sherpa assistance, or radios. Reinhold Messner declared the climb, “The best ascent of Everest in terms and style of pure adventure.” Venables reached the summit becoming the first Briton to do so without supplemental oxygen. ‘Snow in the Kingdom’ refers to Ed’s great book about his three Everest expeditions.

Ed Webster, author, climber, lecturer, has seen Everest from all sides as a member of three very different teams – an attempt on the West Ridge Direct (1985) as part of a 20-member team, a solo ascent of Everest’s North Peak - Changtse (1986), and the audacious ascent of the Kangshung Face (1988) with a team of four. We are pleased to offer his terrific posters depicting all sides of the mountain.
