Danish mountaineer Christensen has climbed for more than 30 years, the last 20 of these mostly in the Himalaya – Ama Dablam (1988), Dhaulagiri (1991), Broad Peak (1994), Everest (1996, 2000, 2013), Gasherbrum I (1998), Pandra & Danga (2002), Baruntse (2008), Lhakpa Ri (2009), Mustagh Ata (2010), and Changtse (2013). He has led expeditions for Kipling Travel to some of these peaks and documents his climbs in diaries. Some of these have been converted to books. Here Christensen covers the 2000 Thrane & Thrane Everest expedition, named after the Danish satellite company. Some members of the team had been on Everest in 1996, as members of Mal Duff’s international team, but that attempt was abandoned below the South Summit. On that expedition, Christensen reached 8450m without supplemental oxygen with Veikka Gustafsson. This 2000, ten-member, Danish team returned and placed five on the summit via the South Pillar. This is Christensen’s personal account during the course of the expedition. The official team expedition book is ‘Everest: Drømmen & Sejren’. In Danish, no English translation.
