Walter Bonatti (1930-2011) was one of the world’s great mountaineers, as well as an explorer and journalist. In his brief, 17 year, climbing career he was noted for bold solo ascents and well as his association with the Italian first ascent of K2 in 1954. Following his retirement from the vertical world in 1965, Bonatti turned his attention to the horizontal world.
