Conroy was 23 in 1996 when Radio 702 chose him to travel to Everest to cover the first South African Everest expedition, led by Ian Woodall, and what was to become the greatest tragedy in climbing history. Conroy relives the tragedies by sharing notes from his personal diary as well as audio transcripts of the radio interviews and radio transmissions between the climbers trapped and lost on the mountain. Some of these critical radio conversations have never been revealed before and Conroy provides a link to the actual recordings, revealing some of the mysteries of the death of South African climber/photographer Bruce Herrod. Now, two decades later, his memoir adds to the story of what happened on the mountain that fateful year. This is the 25th book regarding the Everest 1996 tragedy either by climbers who were there or others.
