This is the German edition of Lachenal’s ‘Carnets du Vertige’ which was published after his death. This edition has more photos than the original French edition. Lachenal was a tremendous post-war French climber who was a constant companion of Lionel Terray with whom he made the second ascent of the Eiger. He was also a member of Maurice Herzog’s 1950 Annapurna expedition and reached the summit along with Herzog. His account, given here, was heavily edited by Gérard Herzog, Maurice’s brother. See David Roberts’ ‘True Summit’ for a current account of Lachenal’s thoughts on the Annapurna climb. In German.
