Charles Francis Hall (1821-1871) was an American Arctic explorer who made three expeditions to the Arctic regions, the first two to search for records of Sir John Franklin and the last an attempt on the North Pole on which Hall died. Nourse’s massive account of Hall’s second expedition (1864-69) includes chapters on Hall's prior expeditions, the Franklin search, sledge journeys, information on the Iglulik Esquimaux, material on the fish and game of the region; and useful information about environmental and traveling conditions. This includes the wonderful, large (26.5” x 33.5”), linen-backed, folding, circumpolar map not always present. This book weighs six pounds.
