Prestrud (1881-1927) was one of 20 members of Roald Amundsen’s South Pole Expedition (1910-12). He was a member of the land party, serving as first officer. During the first attempt to reach the pole he almost lost his life in the extreme conditions. He was left out of the following polar attempt but later led a three-man expedition to King Edward VII Land.
This is one of 15 diaries (8 volumes) written by members of the expedition. Only Amundsen’s diary has been translated into English. I have been hoping for an English translation since 2011 but it is unlikely to occur. An important addition to the literature of this historic expedition. In Norwegian, no English translation.
