Nansen (1861-1930) was voted by the people of Norway as the most important Norwegian in the 20th century. After reading this book you will understand why.

The book .provides a brief but complete review of all of Nansen’s many contributions to Norway and the international community. It includes his work as a scientist, expedition leader, polar explorer, architect, diplomat, advisor, humanitarian, Nobel Peace laureate, historian, artist, High Commissioner for Refugees, climate research pioneer, skier, inventor, and much more. It also includes information on the League of Nations, the Nobel Peace Prize, the Nansen Passport, and Nansen’s many travels.

This book evolved out of the Fram Museum’s exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nansen’s birth and features the text and photos from the exhibition. Three-quarters of the book is devoted to photos with the remainder consisting of two articles, one by Nansen’s granddaughter, Marit Greve, and one by Nansen biographer Roland Huntford. In English.
