Kirkus (1910-42) was a British rock climber who climbed extensively in Wales, making a number of new routes with Menlove Edwards, as well as in the Alps and Himalaya. In this instructional book, first published in 1941, he also describes several climbs including the 1933 expedition to Satopanth, led by Marco Pallis, which made an alpine-style ascent. Kirkus was a cousin of Wilfrid Noyce and was killed in the Second World War.
