Stefansson (1879-1962) provides an account of his third expedition, the Canadian Arctic Expedition (1913-18). In an epic similar to the ‘Endurance’ their ship ‘Karluk’ was trapped in the Arctic ice in June 1913. After five months of drifting, the ship succumbed to the pressure of the ice leaving her crew to fend for themselves hundreds of miles from land.
