Filchner's expedition plan to cross the polar ice from the Weddell Sea to the Ross Sea came to an abrupt end when the ice broke up under their base and they were forced to winter over aboard ship. This original account was translated into English in 1994 in a limited edition, although this edition has more photos, illustrations, and maps. Scarce.
