Anatoli Boukreev is perhaps, for better or worse, best known for his role in the 1996 Everest disaster. His account of that event, The Climb, is a compelling read and became a bestseller. Wylie, Boukreev’s companion, provides a more complete picture of this great climber. There are accounts of his climbs on McKinley, K2, Makalu, Manaslu, and Everest - including his diary account of the 1996 Everest expedition, written shortly after his return. Sadly, Boukreev was killed in an avalanche on Annapurna in December 1997.
