If you liked the Shackleton story you’ll find this one fascinating! Roberts resurrects the amazing story of a Russian ship bound for Arctic walrus-hunting grounds which was blown off course and trapped in the ice off the coast of Spitzbergen, in 1743. Four men went ashore to look for an abandoned hut but upon their return they found their ship gone. Thus followed six years of deprivation and survival until another off-course ship stumbled upon them. Roberts himself traveled to Spitzbergen to look for traces of this forlorn group.
