This is a compilation of eight smaller diaries from men of Roald Amundsen’s South Pole Expedition (1910-12). Schröer (1872-1932) was a member of the sea party with responsibility for the technical-scientific work; Hansen (1871-1955) was a member of the sea party and a tinsmith; Rønne (1861-1932) was a member of the sea party, a sailmaker, and tailor; Kutschin (1888-1912) was a member of the sea party with responsibility for the oceanography work; Wisting (1871-1936) was a member of the land party and went to the pole, later joining Amundsen’s Maud and Norge expeditions; Hanssen (1870-1956) was a member of the land party and went to the pole; Stubberud (1883-1980) was a member of the land party, was responsible for building Framheim, was a member of the three-man expedition to King Edward VII Land, and was the last survivor of the expedition; and Doxrud (1881-1935) was captain of the Fram in South America and first mate on the voyage back to Norway.
This is one of 15 diaries (8 volumes) written by members of the expedition. Only Amundsen’s diary has been translated into English. I have been hoping for an English translation since 2011 but it is unlikely to occur. An important addition to the literature of this historic expedition. In Norwegian, no English translation.
